Chevrolet waiting for EPA mileage label for volt rollout

As soon as the EPA issues a mileage label for the Volt plug-in hybrid sedans, Chevrolet will begin shipping the vehicle to dealers, according to Tom Stephens, General Motors Co.'s global product chief. Stephens said that EPA’s label for the Volt is expected to arrive “any day.” The label is required for the car to go on sale. Production of the Volt at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant has started since early this month. Stephens spoke to reporters at an event celebrating the Volt's being named Motor Trend magazine's 2011 Car of the Year.

The venue of this event was at the wind tunnel of GM's Warren Technical Center in suburban Detroit. Stephens asserted that the Volt is the most aerodynamic vehicle GM has ever built. GM claims that the Volt can run 25 to 50 miles on battery power alone.
